I was lucky enough to make a trip to the stairwell leading up to Apartment #50 in the fall of 2002.
For years (decades?) people had been painting scenes from the book on the walls. And every now and then someone would paint over most of them, but leave the best(?) behind – so you could see layers and layers of paint around some of the oldest drawings.
Unluckily, when I went back in spring of 2003 they had totally whitewashed the walls. I heard it was in preparation for a museum or sale of the building, I never followed up.
